The face of downtown West Allis is changing. What once was the hub of blue collar jobs has become an area of commerce, education and living. This area continues to evolve as new projects emerge. Across the street from the West Quarters Project and adjacent to the MATC West Allis campus, the Blue & Gold Ventures, Inc. start-up from Marquette University, Vida, is newly open for business. Undergrad students have developed and operate every facet of the business.
The interior feels spacious, calm and clean with plenty of natural light. The light blue accented with natural tones is very relaxing. You won’t find much for solo seating here, which means it’s an ideal place to catch up with a friend or meet for a brief business meeting.
Sourcing their coffee beans from Stone Creek Coffee and their bakery items from Troubadour, Vida offers a sizable espresso and coffee menu and a selection of bakery items. For lunch, they offer a developing food menu–for now, just soup and a ham & swiss croissant–but more salads and sandwiches are planned to be added soon.
Caramel Latte – This caramel latte didn’t taste strong at first, but the espresso became more noticeable as we drank. Overall this was decent – it would have been nice to experience more of Vida’s espresso menu, but we were in a rush today!
Iced Caramel Latte – The espresso was prominent and the flavor was well-balanced. This was on-par as far as flavored iced lattes go, and if you’re a dedicated cold-drink fan they also have a frappe menu.
Blueberry Danish – Honestly, you can’t go wrong with Troubadour Bakery of Bayview. In addition, to this tasty, flaky danish, Vida offers croissants, muffins, scones and more.
The merch available is simple, well-designed and affordable.
