FIDDLEHEADS – MENOMONEE FALLS

Founded in 1996, Fiddleheads is a family-owned business that has expanded to six cafes, a roastery and a bakery. Fiddleheads seeks to not only roast good coffee, but also to bring you a variety of soups, sandwiches, artisan breads and pastries. We visited their newest cafe, located in the heart of downtown Menomonee Falls, WI.

The winner of this experience for us was the space.  The space is amazing and multi-faceted – maybe more than any other coffee shop we’ve encountered.  With multiple unique seating areas, this would be a good place to meet with friends, even in large groups. They have a meeting room available so work could easily be conducted here as well.

In the summer, this space will double in size due to the available areas for outdoor (and rooftop!) seating.  These outdoor spaces feature heaters that extend usefulness of these spaces into cooler seasons. Both the front and the back of this establishment have garage-door windows, which will make this place open-air in the summer!

There are two stories available to patrons, both stories having small tables and couches, plenty of wall outlets for electronics, and a family restroom on both floors. The first floor fireplace will keep customers warm and cozy during the chilly winter months.

We want to point out that this space is very well designed and decorated.  Being a gorgeous cream-city brick historical building, they made every effort to make sure the inside was as carefully designed as the outside.  White granite tabletops, bright green succulents and colorful couches make the space look inviting and exciting!

The menu gives you a decent variety for a coffee shop. They had breakfast options including breakfast sandwiches and bakery. For those of you who enjoy an afternoon work session, they have lunch options too! Their beverage selection was wide-ranging as well. In the coffee department, they have drip coffee, espresso, lattes & mochas, cold brew, and blended options! If you are not into the whole coffee scene, they have hot cider, chai lattes, tea, hot chocolate, and smoothies. They also have special beverages for the holiday season!

Today they were brewing their Sumatra, Honduras, and Decaf Colombia. Here’s what we decided to try!

DSC_5718EDIT1

Blended latte – This blended latte was much like a chocolate chip milkshake with a hint of espresso.  Very sweet but not completely smooth, the chocolate and espresso granules provided a bit of texture to this frosty drink.

DSC_5710EDIT1

French Vanilla Latte –  This latte was bursting with vanilla flavor, almost overpowering, but just the right amount for the espresso flavor. The sweetness really complimented the Fiddlehead scone nicely, which was the perfect sweet and dry combo!

DSC_5738EDIT1

Fiddlehead Scone – This oat-based scone is loaded with all things good for you. Oats, Flax Seeds, dried cranberries and sweetened lightly with honey. This scone is pretty dry though so we definitely advise pairing it with their Honduras drip coffee.

Blackberry Poppy Seed Muffin – This was a delicious piece of bakery! The muffin was moist and had a number of actual blackberry chunks in it, which was a lovely addition! The blackberries also provided a nice flavor throughout the rest of the muffin. This went very well with the Hawaiian Christmas Latte!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread – This was eye-catching! The pumpkin nuts on top was the perfect accent to the dessert. The chocolate chips provided a fudgey flavor, while the moistness of the pumpkin made this very enjoyable.

Fudge Brownie – This lived up to its name!  It was very fudgy and moist, combined nicely with the nuttiness of walnuts. It would be very hard to stop at just one bite with this dessert.  We’d recommend pairing this with a coffee or tea order that’s not on the sweet side.

Cranberry Spice Muffin – This muffin was nice and soft with subtle hints of spice and cranberries. We would have loved to see more cranberries, but maybe we’re just nostalgic being thanksgiving weekend. This muffin paired well with the latte.

Latte – We decided to order an extra shot for this latte which was the right choice. The dark espresso was bold and the perfect start to our day. We can’t wait to see how their latte art grows over time.

The Hawaiian Christmas Latte – This was the holiday drink we decided to try. The Hawaiian Christmas Latte was something special. The coconut milk was an interesting twist on the traditional latte and the hints of macadamia nut was a pleasant surprise! We would definitely recommend this to anyone with a bit of adventure in their blood. If you expect a strong coffee presence in your lattes, you better order this with a shot of espresso.

Bacon Breakfast Sandwich – This consisted of eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, and homemade sun-dried tomato spread on a ciabatta roll.  This delicately-flavored breakfast sandwich was served with a side of grapes, making it a well-balanced breakfast order. We were expecting this to be a little more flavorful, especially when bacon is involved.

They do sell bags of coffee, water bottles and apparel here. Now’s the time to get some of that Christmas shopping done!

If you want to meet with a friend, a client, your entire office, or hang out alone, we think Fiddleheads would be a great place to check out!
